Cheaper than mixing, better than mastering

STEM MASTERING

Stem mastering is a hybrid between mix and mastering and it consists on mastering a track by sections.

When it comes to work on a track professionally there are usually two clearly distinct services: mix and mastering. Mixing a track is working on the elements separately so it is easier to get the best out of each one and reach a better balance on the track —mastering consists on working on a track as a whole, and it plays with the frequencies and dynamics already existent and previously created on the mix. A good mastering can do engineering wonders, but there will always be some details or mistakes that won’t be able to get fixed, since them will depend on the mix.

On the same track there are always elements that come easier to treat and elements that aren’t just as easy, and sometimes that can ruin the whole track.

A wonderfully mixed track with the bassline out of place doesn’t seem very professional, does it?

Besides the most obvious differences between both services, there will always be an extra factor that will keep mix and mastering separated: the price. When you just nailed your whole mix but you got stocked with just a couple of elements, why paying the whole mix service?

STEM MASTERING TO THE RESCUE!

With a stem mastering we get to split the track into the 5 most important and complicated sections in order to isolate that tricky element that you got stocked with and focus on it, sculpting it to perfection without the frequencies of the rest of the elements interfering.

In a track, whether it’s techno, house, trance or latin hip hop, we can easily separate the elements by some specific groups when it comes to mixing. Sometimes it is because they require different processes, and sometimes it is because those groups are usually the ones creating problems. That’s why we decided to work the stem mastering splitting the track in these five: kick, bass, beat, main element and rest of the elements.

Now, we grab your groups, we squeeze the best out of each one of them, we master them and then we sum them up through our analog tube mixer. And believe us, once the track comes out of there, the difference in quality from a regular mastering will surprise you.

Stem mastering, enjoy the benefits of a mix and leave the price aside.
